A long time ago, in a land far far away... A girl named Jane K was a PhD graduate student studying neuroscience at Harvard. Aside from neuroscience, she adored fashion and design. When she could never find well-made jewelry that was not only stylish and elegant, but smart, interesting, and--most importantly--fresh, she took matters into her own hands. As creative outlet from her lab research on developmental neurobiology, Jane started making jewelry for herself, funded by her modest graduate student stipend. One thing led to another, and soon Linea Nervenkitt was born. A nod towards her science training, the term "Nervenkitt" is in fact an archaic German name for a particular type of brain cell.

In 2002, Linea Nervenkitt was named one of five finalists in the Gen Art International Styles Competition in the Accessories category and was later featured in Lucky Magazine as a "Designer to Watch". In late 2003, Jane moved her studio to New York and continues to design and create jewelry for the fashion-forward and style-conscious woman, all the while not forgetting that one must always approach fashion with a sense of humor and irreverence!

Jane was recently awarded the Fashion Group International 7th Annual Rising Star Award in Jewelry! She received her PhD in Neurobiology from Harvard in June 2004.
